Sightseeing Information
The Stunning Vistas of Cape Earth
One of the eminent scenic areas in all of Japan, with views all the way to distant Cape Esan and the Shimokita Peninsula on clear days. Recently, Cape Earth has, along with Nemuro, Hokkaido's Cape Nosappu, become a popular spot for watching the first sunrise of the year, attracting large crowds of tourists from as far away as the Kansai District as well as throughout Hokkaido. In addition, the cape's lighthouse, located on a cliff nearly 120m above sea level, is a must-see part of the area's scenery and plays an important role guiding ships bound for the coast.
Access: From Bokoi Sta., 8 min by bus to the final stop at Chikyu Misaki Danchi and a final 20 min. on foot
Hakucho Bridge
A gleaming white, large-scale suspension bridge spanning the Port of Muroran, the impressive, soft form of the Hakucho Bridge is evocative of a swan spreading its wings. The bridge features electrodeless discharge lamps on a service access rail along its 1,380m main cable and metal halide lamps from the water's surface straight up the two main towers. These lights are turned on at dusk, bathing the bridge in swan white light and highlighting its exquisite form.
Access: Jinya-cho & Shukuzu-cho, Muroran-shi
